Rejetting Wombat for Victory Port conversion?
One of these days I'm going to have the parts to put my 94 back together with a Victory Ported iron cylinder and Combat piston.
Will other adjustments likely be necessary to keep up with the extra boost from of the V Port? E.g., running a larger main jet, using a B9HS plug (one range colder than a 94) etc..

JUst adding a victory port will not alter jetting . Also note that at the same time the victory port is added redirecting the back of the transfer ports is wort doing too since the victory port now tales care of scavenging the back of the cylinder

Thanks for the your insight Rich. I don't know the history of the cylinder, but I can compare it with my stock cylinder. The Victory Ported cylinder came out of a 94 motor that was in a 98 Super Rat frame that I bought sight unseen a few years back.
Discovering that it had a Victory Ported Wombat cylinder was a bit of a surprise. It also had an internal flywheel/rotor CDI setup, but hopelessly seized to the crankshaft. You picked up the frame and pipe at Hodaka Days.
There were too many non-original parts and missing parts to call it a restoration core, so I hung on to a handful of few pieces that I thought I might use someday. Most were crap.

Darrell. I have had similar discussions about this with Danny Cooke. He advised me of 2 possiblities. One is to just go piston port with a model 95 piston and using the port as originally designed. The other is to convert to Reed valve and do the additional modifications and change to the correct piston for Reed valve operation. Danny told me that I need to make sure I also go to a 28mm carb instead of the 24mm stock. He also said decide which way you want to go and just do it once, because if you just do piston port and then decide to change to Reed Valve, you have the piston expense twice.
I have a Model 95 cylinder and head on a Model 94 bottom end. I have a 24mm model 93 carb, from a Super Rat. I've decided that since I built the bike for my now 15 year old grandson, that I would leave it as is until he gets to the point where riding it is more than just a part time thing. The bike has enough power as a starter bike. Danny tells me converting to piston port without the Reed Valve mod will give the bike about a 15% power increase. He further said that if I go all the way to the reed valve config it could boost the power by as much as 30%.
My grandson doesn't need that much more power, at least not yet. So I plan to wait it out and see how interested he stays in riding the bike in the future. When the time comes, I'll then make the decision. And I would probably want to invest in something better than the stock exhaust as well. Hope this helps you with your decisions. ; D Victor

ONe does not have to buy pistons twice if you chose to go reed valve later you only have to add the holes to the skirt. I always recommend the reed valve even for the beginner and even more so since it makes the bike friendlier and better behaved and easier to lug around without loading it up or killing it. And a 24mm carb will work fine you just will make more power with the 28 . With the reeds it opens the door for more progressive porting down the road as skills increase.

I don't think I'll put on a 95 cylinder,a reed valve, etc.. I prefer to keep the stock 94 Wombat look without any exhaust pipe and intake adaptations. I like the "sleeper" route -- although the 95 piston and Victory Port will probably only add about 1.5 hp.
It might not sound too exciting, but improving gas mileage and extending the range per tank (on both the Wombat and 250SL) is quite important to me. Much of the riding we do around here takes us far and away from civilization. The previously recommended torque grooving procedure will likely show some improvement in that regard.

Reed valves also improve mileage along with performance and a victory port wont hurt as id doesn't change how much air and fuel enter the crank case it only improves how it enters the cylinder and improves scavenging , also a victory port will provide cooler piston crown temps by releasing trapped mixture under the crown also provide better upper rod bearing lube and cooling. But if you ride it like a hot rodder because its more fun that is where mileage goes down .
