I have a dilemma

So my left inner case has this chip. My parts were at a friends house. I thought for sure I placed the chip somewhere safe. Well before I got the parts I wanted to make progress so I installed the bearings and seals. Guess what, can't find the chip. Should I get a new case, try and remove and reinstall the bearings and seals? Or do I go to the motorcycle junk yard here and get a piece of a case and reshape it and have it welded in? What do you all suggest?

It can be welded, guy can fabricate a new piece.

Thanks, that's the option I want to go for. I know welding aluminum is different. What do I need to ask for as I call around? I have a few friends also just not sure if they have a setup for aluminum.

What uses are you going to use the hodaka. If it were me and i was just going to do some fun riding I would tape a strip of duct tape on the inside of the case, put the flywheel cover / shift cover on and fill the little sucker with silicone, it would only take a teaspoon full. Or I would pick up a left hand side engine case cheap and go from there. If the threaded post below the sprocket isn't there, the one the shift cover bolts to. Then I would get the used case.

You have to have a guy who is very knowledgeable about welding aluminium. too little heat and the weld wont look good or hold, too hot and you're looking for a new case half. Don't be afraid to send it out, although I'd send as a pair in case he wants them screwed together to keep one from warping.

Thanks, I plan on riding around town, but also using it as a trail bike where my brother owns a cabin in Michigan. You guys know anyone reliable here in the hodaka community? Not sure what cost is for something like this. That's how I'm leaning. Buy a used case, take the seals and bearings out (what if I damage one? Not highly likely on the bearing but maybe seals) versus the cost of having it welded. Guess that's where I'm at.
Thanks

Found this set of cases with an extra primary gear on eBay. He wants about $43 for the whole thing with shipping. I'd make an offer for $40 shipped and I bet he takes it. ; D Victor

The ebay cases look broken as well, but in a different location. It also looks like the lower rear shifter case mounting boss is broken off (a common problem).

Glad you found someone to alums weld it for you! I figured you could buy the used case and break of what you needed to fill in. But the route you're going is better! ; D Victor

Yes I did and I'm off Tuesday. Hope to put the bottom end together and decide what to do about the top. Sure I'll post pics, I just figured I'm not doing anything special to modify it so figured it looks like every other hodaka, but I'll post pics. Thanks!!
