Lets see a picture of how it was done

Probably more common on the older models which had short wheelbases to start with. I extended my 100B arm by just under three inches, and it is still fractionally shorter in wheelbase than a stock 97/98 setup. Probably can't hurt if done in a professional manner.

pictures. it doesn't seem that 1 inch or so would make that much difference, but maybe it does since it was done.

I don't know how common it is, but it's not uncommon. I have heard of some people putting the 03 Wombat swing arm onto their Super Combats and Super Rats, and it is 1" longer than stock (resulting in the same as adding an inch).
