250 ED vs. SL suspension

I'm putting together a 250 ED project and have noticed I don't have any springs for my 34mm forks. I have a set of 250 SL forks around that I could steal the springs from , but I noticed they are quite a bit different than the set for the ED. They are a single piece where the ED uses 2-pieces - a shorter spring and a spacer. Has anybody made this swap? Was there any noticeable difference?

The SL springs will make it ride like a Mac truck unless you throw another 100 lb on the bike.
