burned up basket case
Re: burned up basket case
Local Yamaha shop the guy set me up.thanks for thought......Albert
Re: burned up basket case
i started thinking that was a really non answer so hers some more info on the condenser i used...albert
Re: burned up basket case
well i feel like i won the lottery, we have spark so the next question is the kill switch. i have one wire coming from the magneto in to the condenser then it splits off and goes to the coil. i got a two wire switch that screws on to the clutch perch and works by pushing a button till it stops, so in my picture i have a blue wire going to the coil , i tie in to that with one wire and ground the other one ?
Re: burned up basket case
Tie it to the black wire on the coil. Blue to blue, black to black. Pretty simple & easy. Victor

Re: burned up basket case
It looks like you have built your own wires here and if so, the colors are really irrelevant. Originally your hot ignition wire coming from the magneto exciter coil would be black and ground coming from the magneto would be blue. You just need to connect the hot lead to your new ignition coil and tie the condenser lead and one side of your kill switch to it (it looks like you already have this). The ground wire from the magneto should connect to the mounting bolt at the ignition coil and you would tie the other side of the kill switch to that ground. Your kill switch literally sits between the ignition lead and ground and simply grounds out the ignition lead when the switch is pushed.

Re: burned up basket case
yes thats my wiring, in my haste to see if i would get a spark i finished with the blue wire now that were putting a kill switch on i got some more wire and will take the blue off and replace with black. so i have one wire coming up from the ignition primary coil, i soldered the points wire to the coil wire and ran it up to the condenser then to the new ignition coil so if i take one wire from the kill switch and tie into that wire then the other one to ground that should be it. again thanks for the help wiring always baffles me....albert

Re: burned up basket case
Albert I found a sprocket and I can help you with the carburetor parts. is it the mixing chamber cap or the mixing chamber body? ----------Clarence
Re: burned up basket case
i would say the body and that's awful nice clarence. let me know what you want for it...albert
Re: burned up basket case
yesterday i took off the carburetor from my B+ and put it on the burned out basket case, i figured i would get some heat cycles going before i got my carburetor issues resolved so as to break it in a little faster. got it all hooked up with temporary gas tank/bottle when we ,my navigator, and i tried to kick it over there was a sicking sound of kick rollers slipping past the kick roller container, now i almost remember looking at the parts and thinking they looked not so good so the reason i'm confessing is its a pretty good set back so if this helps any one look at their parts and think they can get buy with them , "don't" its really not worth it. on the bright side found out now instead of latter.......albert
Re: burned up basket case
The retainer clip may have slipped. Did you press the retainer clip into its space inside the case? Just asking. Still means opening the case back up. But..... Victor

Re: burned up basket case
. . . and are you going to use one of the new fangled machined kick roller retainers on the rebuild? Or are you sticking with the old fashioned drawn/stamped kick roller retainer?
I certainly recommend the new fangled unit.
Ed
PS: That is just about the worst looking kick start shaft I've ever seen. The "ramps" for the rollers are wayeeeee past "toast".

new fangled unit, yea i'm starting to think i should of got a real mistress and just got my grandson a new gold wing.....at least this project doesn't talk back........albert
Re: burned up basket case
YES it runs. few adjustments to make ,the clutch, shifting, maybe i might of been being to careful with it . i let it run for 5 to 10 minutes then walked away for a few hours then started it up and took it around the yard could only get to 4 gear before running out of room we will give it some more time tomorrow. for you purists the paint was picked out by my 10 year old grand son . since weve been working on this so it would be his he asked if it needed to be red as i could not think of a good answer i said no and he did most of the painting. he is already talking about making it street legal so when he gets his licence he can ride it to school we will see. thank you for all the help it was a challenge...seems to run great....albert

Nice work Albert. I think the blue looks really good and really makes it his bike.

Re: burned up basket case
Very nice, Albert. I really dig the blue fork legs. Really makes the front end "pop" as my girls would say.
Re: burned up basket case
thanks matt..the fork legs got painted cause the heat from the fire and rust made the chrome flake off so it was paint or re chrome and im on a budget...same for the fount fender stay and muffler side cover, mac i let my grandson pick the color so he would be more engaged in this project, the seats not as good as i wanted but the gas cap came out good....albert
Re: burned up basket case
I like the Blue! It’s nice to see different colors once in a while! Nobody said a Road Toad had to be green! Victor

Oh yeah, I didn't notice the fender stay before. Cool. Always great to see another phoenix rising from the ashes - in more ways than one this time. Congratulations! A family heirloom is born.
Re: burned up basket case
working on some fine tuning. having some carb issues and so took the carb apart again and really looked and it has a 130 main jet, the bike came with a reed valve and ported piston and now its not, not ported no reed valve, so would this jet be normal for a reed ported engine . all the other jets and stuff are per work shop manual. im guessing its time to get some jets my other B+ has a 90 main jet so i will start there.....albert
