The tool I built for my Ace has a large end diameter of 5 mm give or take a few thousands of an inch.

I don't know the size for later models, but I thought it was larger than 5mm.

Isn't there a snap ring somewhere on the Ace that's the 'bigger' one?

I'll try to remember. Senior moment here, but thought I saw one.

I borrowed one of the early tools from a friend, had another friend make me a tool but it doesn't work as it should. Possibly made the indent too large. Got a tool in a deal and I think it may be a later one, trying to figure out the differences so I can ID the tool.

I have the piece with the black ball handle, but not the tapered piece. Can I use it without the tapered piece or do I need the tapered piece for the piece I have to be functional? :ugeek: Victor

It can be used without the pin, (I've done it) works better with. Would you like a pin?

I’ve searched YouTube for Hodaka snap ring tool both with & without quotes and don’t find anything but snap ring pliers. Any search tips for YouTube? :ugeek: Victor

Somewhere there is a link to the video, I think South Cal Hodaka did one. I know it's out there as I have seen it. I'll keep looking.

I found it. Go to you tube. Search Hodaka repair, you'll see a video for control shaft springs, that's the one. Seems there was a better one, but I can't locate it.

I have seen that video by Kelly before. So, the tool is only used for pushing the snap ring back on. I thought, for some reason, there was more than one use for it? Thx!

Looking forward to receiving the pin! In the past I sent the shaft out to someone who had the tool to put the snap ring back on. :ugeek: Victor

I remember doing those snap rings without the tool back in the early '70's. I don't know how I did it but I do remember it wasn't easy. There must have been a way.

You hook one end of the ring in the slot, then you roll the pin into the slot, kinda like putting a tire on a rim. Hardest part is holding the cup down. Takes 3 hands...
