In a case like this it would be nice to have a big brother like ANTON CHIGURH from the movie (No Country For Old Men) ! Joe Ormonde.

So today I got a call from the person who had purchased the XR70 and due to my Facebook Stolen Bike post. They bike they had bought with a promised title in the mail ;) had the same unique red grips (stock are black!).

Long story short, the little XR is back home mostly complete with some damaged plastics. All else intact.

Having pictures, serials, unique features in your bike documented is critical to recovery.

One Hodaka to go . . .

You are most fortunate in having a Sheriff's office willing to put out this much effort in so short a time. Reminiscent of law enforcement in a prior century. Perhaps when all is done, a little letter to the editor praising their efforts would be in order.

Indeed. That is really great police work. I'm inventorying every bike, frame, and motor, and case in my entire stash. I'm also photographing and writing a description of everything. This is a nightmare, Gary. I'm sorry you have to endure it but so far, the recovery effort is encouraging. Fingers crossed for the Hodie's return. Maybe this is a wake up call for those of us who have yet to inventory our gear to do so. It is apparent the world hasn't run out of scummy losers yet.

You know how I get rid of old tires? I paint $10.00 on them and put them in the back of my pickup when I go to the Home Depot. It works with old paint too so remember put a price on them too!!! Joe Ormonde

A guy I worked for did the same thing, put it out with a "free" sign on it and it'd stay there forever, put "$5" on it and it disappears, the takers think it has value and away it goes. And gets rid of the junk for free.

Funny update: We are still looking for the Hodaka, so if you are in Washington (SW) or Oregon (NW), please keep your eyes open for the bike or parts that may have come from it.

The funny part is that the XR was not running very well when stolen, but the peeps replaced a fuel line and adjusted the carb so it actually runs better now! Gonna be $200 in new factory plastics to be “right”, but it runs and rides perfectly!

Any news on your Hodaka? If the slugs that stole your Hodaka are anything like the ones that live around me, that bike is in one piece! Just a thought: a lot of these thieves were dropped off at Grandpa`s place because their parents couldn`t control them. Grandpas still read newspapers, slugs don`t. Run ads in a few newspapers: your Hodaka may be in a garage of a good old guy that still has faith in his grandson who is more rotten now than ever before. Joe Ormonde.

No news yet. The detective who is assigned to the case was off for a couple of days, so I will be in touch with him tomorrow. Need to see if they have been able to track down the fellow who the bike supposedly went with.

I will update here with any news. Good idea on the ad - I will see what options I have available. There are not a lot here.

I just passed along some more good info to the detectives, so we are still in this!

STOLEN BIKE(S) - UPDATE #3 - the Hodaka Comes Home!

So I was awakened by the pooch early today, and surfed on a few sites hoping that maybe, just Maybe more of the stuff would show up. Lo and behold. . .

Well - the adrenalin glands started working overtime! I got ahold of the detective, who started working on his end. After about 45 minutes of high level internet sleuthing, I was able to get his name, Facebook page, date of birth, and even some criminal history. All via publicly available sites!

About an hour ago, we converged on the location and were able to retrieve the last motorcycle, mostly unmolested.

Obviously some TLC is needed, but the carnage is pretty limited, and not related to the Motor, Pipe or Tank!

Whew! Relief! You can't help following this story. I'm looking in the Hodaka shed for some tar and feathers and that rail they rode 'em outta town on. It's here somewhere. 8-)

Congrate Gary, all is well now in the world, maybe a good story for the resonator, and good lesson for us all. Keep records and pictures and details on you prized bikes. Just in case some low life wish,s to make a little extra spending money at your exenses. You never know. GREAT NEWS!!!

Nice ! This story is a little off track, but it`s about a thief: a rent thief. Old man out here in Phelan had a single wide mobile home rented out. They would NOT pay the rent ! Took them to court. The gal`s Social Worker actually went to court and convinced the judge NOT to evict them. So, the old man hired his buddy Fred that had a tow truck that looked like something out of a Mad Max movie to pull the mobile home right off the stands. And he did!!! Oops. Then the old man Ed, called the County Building And Safety Department and they RED TAGGED it ! That was the only way he could get them out. And it worked! Those are the kind of people that stole your Hodaka. Rent thieves. Joe Ormonde.
