OK!!! Got the piston/cylinder back today! Top end went on like butter!!! Can't believe how easy it was. He didn't have to gap the rings at all because whe he finished the cylinder to be .004 over the piston, the ring gap went from being completely closed to being .008 for the top ring and .018 for the bottom ring!

All horizontal port edges were chamfered & the exhaust port relieved an additional .003 as well. I just can't believe how easy it went together! Just squeezed the rings with my fingers and plop!

Finished the carb up and it has a 160 main jet & a 30 pilot jet in it. Cleaned everything well and put a new O ring on the choke plunger! Don't know if the 160 main will work at this elevation of 7,000 feet, but I figured I'd try it first. Just need some extra hands to drop it in the frame! Yippie!!! :D Victor

Good news Victor! Sounds like you have found a good shop to work with for all your machining needs.

Got the motor in the frame, but, I forgot I didn't have a second exhaust manifold! Bruce had one but it was minus the inner tube piece, so I just ordered a new one. Wait again........ :D Victor

OK. Feeling really STUPID!!! I bought and received a new exhaust port because I couldn't find another one here. Received it yesterday.

Went out to the garage & just found a perfectly acceptable one on the extra cylinder I painted! Damn. Anyway, that was $60 I didn't have to spend! Victor

Question to my Toad people! Is there an exhaust gasket to go between the pipe and the exhsust flange? I don't see one on the owner's manual but just making sure. Victor

Matt. Can you please do me a favor? Can you take a picture of the springs & rear brake light switch on the rear brake stay arm and post it to me? Mine is looking a bit strange on one and different on the other! Should be the same, I would think since they are both the same model and same month of factory build? It appears I might have the wrong brake rod on one of these Toads, and I think it's the Green one. Also need to know if the brake switch faces towards the wheel or outward! Thanks! :D Victor

Some new pics! Got the pipe on and the exhaust flange! Also installed the clutch & throttle cables. Put the correct bolt for the castle nut and special washer on the rear brake hub for the brake stay. Need fuel line, a"T" and install the fuel filter. Add the chain, tranny oil and 28:1 for break in and kick that beast over! Victor!!!

So how many ounces of oil per @ gallon of gas are you using Victor, to equal that 28:1? Clarence

Clarence, I use a mixing cup that has fuel ratios marked on it! But its about 4.5 ounces of 2 stroke oil per gallon of fuel to get the 28:1 ratio. The mixing cup makes it easy. Just pour to the 28:1 mark and then pour into my gas can, rinse cup with gas and pour into gas can and add fuel to make one gallon of gas. I use one like this! :D Victor

Did my first chain Breaking, instead of taking it to the shop. Bought a Harbor Freight chain breaker & it worked very well! Chain is now mounted and rear wheel center tracking well and axle snugged up! :D Victor

Victor, I've developed a special harness to view your pictures. I can hang up-side down to see the inverted and 90 degree increments for others with the flip of a switch. LOL! Just giving you a bad time as always! Your projects are always fun and I like your enthusiasm. Keep up your fun posts!

Hey Victor, I just thought of something. If you look at my rear brake switch, you can see tiny bolts, nuts, and washers holding the switch housing together with the backing plate that mounts to the bike. Stock, the housing is held together with some type of rivets which, on mine, had pulled through and the whole shootin' match was all apart. I put it back together with the hardware as shown that I was able to find at ACE Hardware. I don't know if this is a known or frequent failure of this particular part. As the switch does see some stress, you might consider preemptively reinforcing yours similarly if it looks like its about to crap out. You should be able to pass these tiny bolts right through the rivets as they are hollow. Just something to consider.

ACE Hardware, major fastener supplier of the Day One Project. What a place, fix the Hodaka and the sink drain with one trip! What a resource. Even the Checkout gals have a great sense of humor and refer to me as Max Bad. A great example of what retailing should be all about.

With ya Maxie. Its probably the last bastion of the classic neighborhood hardware store ; around here anyway. Ours is owned by a guy who lives just down the street from me and he's a third generation owner. Now his kids work there and soon grandkids. Everyone there knows me by name and we chit chat about the days events. That's my rendition of how the world should be. I also like the fact that they now carry Craftsman tools.
