Rim lacing question

Post by SuperRat01 »

I am going to attempt my first wheel lacing on a 98 Super Rat front rim. My question is, are the 90 degree spokes used on the outside? Thanks, Linc

Yes, 90-ish outers. 45-ish inners. Take your time, and good luck.

Well, was it as much fun as you hoped? :D

PS- my first attempt at wheel lacing resembled a freaked out porcupine for a couple of hours!

I was always afraid to try-- By "good" fortune I had an expert who hung around the shop who laced for parts.

Lacing is not the hardest part, making it round can drive ya nuts.

Oddly, I have never had trouble getting wheels round unless they are bent to start with, then it is a crap shoot. I just laced a new rim to refurbished hub with new spokes, all within 45 minutes, and it was round right out of the box. Of course, the Excel spoke holes are drilled off angle because no one offers a rim for a Hodaka, so it came back apart so I can align the holes and pockets to take the bending force off the spokes. But really, it was true just from initial assembly.
