New Hodaka fan!

Post by relic »

Thought I'd introduce myself and put up some pic's of my Hodaka project(s). I was born in the late 50's so the 1970's were my formative years. Like many of you I read the cycle mags and lusted over many bikes and that included Hodakas. I've been heavily involved in vintage bikes for many years now and I've built many "riders" from baskets and parts. But till now I never owned a Hodaka.
That all changed a few months back when a friend of mine asked if I'd be interested in his Combat Wombat project. He has too much on the go and had lost interest; you all know the story. So this is my first Hodaka---

The photo makes it look better than it is but it is complete, engine is free, has spark and tank is clean. I'll be working on this one come this winter. (I'm in northern Ontario Canada so winters are time for projects---that's what keeps me somewhat sane)

Next, the fellow who sold the CW to the guy who sold it to me calls and asks if I'm interested in the rest of his Hodaka stash? Sure I say, why not? And he was nice enough to deliver it all today. Just like xmas morning for me when I got home from work and found this in the driveway ---

Again, I haven't made much of an assessment but will over time to see exactly what I've got. Checking serial numbers it seems that this one is a 1971 B+ and appears to be almost complete.
Image

This frame is another 71 B+, obviously no motor and the foot pegs have been welded on in a "trials" position. But the fenders look ok and I'm sure there will be other useable bits.
Image

And the third is an Ace90, frame number is on a tag above the left shock mount. This frame appears ok but the swing arm has been lengthened. So perhaps the s/arm from the roller B+ can fit the Ace 90 and.........well time will tell.

It looks like I've got my next few winters looked after! I'll update and ask questions as I get more into these projects. I've already learned a lot from this forum and from the Strickly Hodaka website.
Thanks all.
