Front tank mnt

Turns out that the front mounts were striped and look like someone tried to drill them bigger and use weld bond lol , So I drilled them bigger and pressed in 1/4" fine tread nuts , will tack weld them in ... Getting closer ! :D

You could have done the same with a 6mm nut, then you would have stayed metric throughout the bike. But, whatever works.

It's ok cause I hang my toilet paper the wrong way as well !

How often do you remove these bolts? Mine were buggered after years of neglect, one was missing in action since the 70's. When doing the rebuild this past year I wanted something more substantial than the skinny metric bolt so I drilled and tapped to 5/16 and used cap screws and rubber grommets. I found that the larger bolt was easier to use, and it holds securely as well. Since I rarely remove these, it doesn't matter that they are SAE instead of metric, and because they are cap screws, they are easy to spot among the other, metric bolts if they are removed.

I drilled mine all the way through and used an 80 mm long bolt with a nut on the other side. The tank is really secure, but for some reason the handlebars no longer turn.

Non-metric hardware on a Hodaka? The purists are going to be upset again. :lol:

I've had this issue on all three of my latest builds... I just welded up the holes and drilled new holes with a 5/32" bit and re-tapped to 6mm. Only had one failure due to a hasty weld job. Did it right the 2nd time. I was thinking a time-sert will work best though.

The reason I didn't rebuild to 6mm is that it wasn't strong enough the first time around. No reason to think it would be better the second. Opted for a substantially larger, easier to use bolt.
