1972 Wombat , am I suppose to have a voltage regulator on the bike and if so where is it ? Thanks

Have you found the exploded view diagrams for the Wombat on the Strictly Hodaka site? Lots of simple questions are answerable by looking at the parts diagram, which is on the site as a .pdf, which you can print or download for future reference.

Far as I know it does not have a voltage regulator. But I would expect it would have a selenium rectifier. Such parts are most always bolted to the battery box. The electrical output of the Wombat is low enough not to really make use of a voltage limiter. It is rated to produce less than 9 volts at 8,000 rpm, so on a 6v system, a limiter would do no real good.

Yes I did and it showed a VR so that is why I asked ! Sorry If I am asking questions about things I do not know ! I will try from now on to do more google searches than ask here .. Again I am sorry to have bothered you ....Thought that a forum was a good source to ask ...Also thank you for your answer ...

IF your scooter is a Model 94 (should be if MFGD in 1972) . . . it did not come with a voltage regulator . . . and none is shown in the Illustrated Parts List for that model, nor in the wiring diagram for that model.

However, despite Arizona's comment, it would be a good thing to add to the Model 94. The voltage regulator from the Road Toad or Model 03 (red tank 125) would work well. The model 94 turned out to be a bit harsh on its headlight and that led to the introduction of the IMT (Impedance Matching Transformer) and solid state voltage regulator. The IMT was only marginally useful, but the voltage regulator was a very good improvement.

PS: I think Arizona was just trying to be helpful. ie, if you didn't know about the illustrated parts lists on the Strictly Hodaka web-site, you wouldn't know about all the things you could find out by yourself without having to type questions and wait for answers.

I guess I need to look harder next time ! This is the diagram I was looking at for the Wombat and it showed a VR... My bad I guess , No worries here , just got a bit smarter I guess ...

On the 72 Wombat, model 94, there was no voltage regulator or any kind of voltage regulation at all. As noted in this tech article, http://www.strictlyhodaka.com/v/vspfile ... Lbprob.jpg, the lack of voltage regulation lead to blown headlights and dead batteries. The model 94A Wombat, aka 73 Wombat, implemented a current limiter with marginal success, (so I've been told). Later models implemented a voltage regulator with much better success.

The wiring diagram you'll find on this site for the Wombat is straight out of the Workshop manual and is actually the diagram for the 94A only. The only differences between the Model 94 and 94A wiring diagram is that the model 94A implemented signal lights and a current limiter, where the model 94 had neither. I used the Model 94A diagram and removed all the circuitry for the signal lights and added the circuitry for a voltage regulator so that it illustrated correct wiring for a Model 94.
