PVL setting

Post by rtboone »

Greetings

Can anyone suggest a reliable BTDC settting for a PVL ignition on an 03 with a HT3 pipe?
Stock is .094" BTDC.
In the tech tip section, Paul set his example at .114" BTDC.
The 97 spec sheet shows .156" BTDC.
The instructions that came with the PVL are not very specific.

I'm only slightly confused, so any advice would be helpful.

I have the PVL ignition from Paul on a 97 with an HT3 pipe and an 03 cylinder that was ported by Rich Gagnon. I set it at .114" BTDC and it runs great. My advice is to set it as per Paul's instruction (which came with my PVL kit.) Anyone else want to chime in?

The 0.156 setting was the original spec for the Hodaka ignition. I am using the PVL on the 97 engine and HT3 with timing set at 0.114. Works just fine.

The nitty gritty of it will depend on the fuel you run as well as altitude. High altitude can handle mor advance but over all the suggestions here are good
