So, I've examined the photos several times and haven't spotted the "epic fail". What's up?

It could be the perspective but one leg looks longer than the other. Since both photos were taken on the diagonal it is hard to tell.

Ok, I'll have a little fun at my own expense. The legs are backwards...the axle plate should be on the short end. The swing arm will smack the frame if installed like its currently built. Everybody makes mistakes once in a while, right? Just glad I seen it before I finished it! Future copies will corrected...
BTW, it's a 2" over Model 93 arm pictured.

Frankly it looks normal to me. The short end of the bend is toward the swing arm pivot, just as the stock arm is. What is backwards here? I don't see it.
