Gear Tooth Module Illustrated
Gear Tooth Module Illustrated
The mainshaft on the left is from a 100MX model 93. The mainshaft on the right is from a Wombat model 94. Both are viewed from the big end showing fifth gear. Both 5th gears are within 0.4 mm of each other in diameter. The gear on the left is module 1.75. The gear on the right is module 2.0.
Even though the fifth gears are virtually the same diameter, the one on the left has 23 teeth while the one on the right has only 20. The 2.0 gears are larger and more robust, but the teeth share the same basic architecture in terms of shape. That is the difference that higher module makes. All other things being equal, the 2.0 gears should be stronger.

Me thinks you have them backward....94 on left,93 on right. That or the photo is upside down However, that is a good useful illustration of the point you made. Thanks for taking the time to share.

Nope. Right side up. The super rat 100cc has more, smaller teeth on the gear than the Wombat. Mainshaft tooth count for the Super Rat is 10, 14, 18, 21, 23. For the Wombat 9, 12, 15, 18, 20.

You're both right. The picture is upside down, but if you click on it it flips right side up.

That's curious. On my iPad, the photo is right side up both ways, gears standing in a box with the gears and side wall of the box at the bottom of the photo. I have noticed other thumb nail photos on the SH website upside down but full sized versions of the same photo right side up. Must be some kind of computer anomaly. Or perhaps everyone needs to switch to Mac to get the right view on life.
Re: Gear Tooth Module Illustrated
Yep, just checked it on my Ipad and it's opposite from my PC. Interesting...

Didn't I mention? Bear Grass grows upside down, like most things in Arizona.hodakamax wrote:AZ--The bear grass picture you sent me is up-side down both ways on my Mac. I just stood on my head--

No problem. Perhaps this summer you will have pictures of the rest of us to post.
