I have two Yamaguchi motors 80cc? I don't know the first one serial begins with Y. The second one the serial number starts with PY this one also has a unique Hodaka cover. The small cover matches the handle mount on the earliest Hodaka see pictures if they load.
any connections?------------Clarence
Yamaguchi to Hodaka
Re: Yamaguchi to Hodaka
Clarence I looked at the Ace 80 engine upstairs in the museum after reading your post.My engine starts with the single letter "Y". As an assumption (SWAG) I would think the "PY" designated engine was similar to what was later the Hodaka "E" engines. This might have been an accessory engine sold separately. There was a minibike produced around 1963-64' that I believe was called the "Super Flea" and used an Ace 80 engine. This photo shows a slightly different magneto cover than we are used to but the inspection cover does have the engraved "HODAKA" not the cast "HODAKA" as found on the Ace 90's and Ace 100's. PABATCO was selling Ace 80 engines complete at discounted prices in 1964 as seen in Ken's Hodaka book. The engraved handlebar clamp in the photo is definitely early Ace 90. It is on my #9 and # 32 Ace 90's.
