Hodaka Super Combat throttle

Post by Forrest »

Hi folks,
Will a Hodaka Super Combat Throttle work on a 94 Combat Wombat?
Thanks,

I would be using the cable from the 94. The assembly/ (housing-pipe) would be from the Super Combat. Thanks.

Are you sure about that Paul? The 94 throttle cable and the 95 throttle cable have different part numbers . . . because of the 4 mm difference in the carb throat diameter . . . which requires a difference in the amount of exposed inner cable which sticks out of the cable housing . . . doesn't it?

Paul is on the road and it was easier for him to call me about this topic. One (or both) of us may have misinterpreted the question. IF the plan is to use a Super Combat twist grip with a 94 throttle cable on a model 94 Wombat with 24mm carb -- then using the 94 (Wombat) cable will work fine.

However, if the plan is to use the 94 throttle cable with the Super Combat twist grip on a model 95 Combat Wombat with 28mm carb -- that won't work. (this is what I thought the question was about)

Summary: The Super Combat twist grip will work on either machine with either carb - but if you have a 24mm carb (wombat) you'll use the 94 cable . . . if you have a 28mm carb (Combat Wombat) you'll need the 95 throttle cable.

Thanks Ed.
I just got the assembly over the weekend and I I'll try to get on sometime this week. I will be using the Super Combat throttle assembly with the 94 Cable, I'm assuming my carb is a 24 stock carb, the rubber airbox house I bought fits so I guess it must be.

Hope to fire this bike up soon. http://www.goomer.com/honda/72_hodaka_wombat/index.html

Forrest:

The photos show a Model 94 Wombat. Paul and I zeroed in on different items in your opening message, where you asked about using a 94 cable on a 94 Combat Wombat. Paul zeroed in on "94" (Wombat) and I zeroed in on "Combat Wombat" (Model 95). The machine is either a Model 94 OR a Combat Wombat, it can't be both (hmmm, that's not true -- but more on that later) . . . now we know it is a model 94 Wombat. I can't really tell from the photos whether you still have the stock 24mm carb, but I think you do. So the 94 cable should work fine with that carb (24mm).

Now for the "more on that later" part. My own "go fast" machine is a Model 94 Wombat (sort of) . . . with a Combat Wombat cylinder and carb (28mm), so it IS a Model 94 Combat Wombat (sort of, kind of).

Whoops so sorry,

I actually have both. Yes the throttle assembly from the Super Combat is for a 94 Wombat.

This is my Toad Combat Wombat, throttle on this works just fine.

I apologize, I get more spaced out by the day.

Forrest I am not sure what you mean by a "Toad Combat Wombat, throttle" ?? Do you mean Road Toad or Combat Wombat?? Two different throttle assemblies.
As long as it all works that is great.
Now I do not have to yell at Ed nor he yell back at me anymore. Actually it does not get any better when you have Ed watching your back :-)
Thanks Ed!!
We can sing kumbaya now.

Thanks

Paul,
My Road Toad has a Combat Wombat engine on it. I am not positive what it has for a throttle, but like I said it works fine.

Sorry about the confusion, certainly created by me. Don't yell at Ed, he is the Man!

I thank you both.

Just another FYI on the throttle cables. I recently purchased a 'Bundle Cable set' from Paul for my 94 Wombat and never considered that I have a 28mm Super Rat carb on it. Well, the new throttle cable made by Motion Pro does have more exposed cable than the on old OEM Wombat cable that I have for a spare, and it works just FINE on the 28mm carb. Just thopught I'd let you all know. And Thanks Paul for the GREAT new cables!

Hmmmm, that surprises me. I sure didn't think the cable for the 24mm carb/Wombat would work with a 28mm carb (a 26mm maybe). But I reckon I can't argue with success.

Captain again a good catch! Mikuni does not make 28mm carbs any longer so we are boring the the 26mm spigot mount carbs to 28mm. This is what we used on your ISDTRR bike too.
Motion Pro has been great to work with. Not only a quality product but quality people working for them.
Several years ago I received a package in the mail from Chris Carter who is the owner of MP and a good friend. It was a original Hodaka tape measure made by one of the distributors that he had come across and wanted us to have it for our museum.
Just great folks that make a great product!
Thanks for the compliment Joe I will pass that on to Joe Fratis / Chris Carter and his team at Motion Pro!
Sincerely
Paul
