Clean out a gas tank

I just bought a 1978 hodaka 250sl. And the tank has some varnish in it. What's the best way to clean it out?

If its just varnish that needs removed, I use Berryman B12 Chemtool. A word of caution, this stuff will dissolve varnish very quickly but it will also damage paint just as quickly so extreme care must be used.
