Engine Color 94A Wombat 1973

Post by amanda11270 »

I have a 94A Wombat, were the engine cases originally painted silver, or just cast finished? Mine appear to have been painted silver at one time, however its really coming off. Im either going to strip it and repaint it, or just leave it bare if it was originally that way.

Amanda,

The cases were all painted silver grey. The paint is available (I think) in rattle cans at SH. I chose to paint the cases on all my bikes except my trials bike. I striped and polished the aluminum. Just need to keep it clean & polished to prevent corrosion.

Yes, the cases were painted. The color is Pewter and as stated, Paul has it.

Dupli-Color DE1650 Ceramic Cast Coat Aluminum is a near perfect match and I've found is very durable. It's also very resistant to gas and oil. Available wherever Dupli-Color products are sold. If they don't have it in stock they can get it.

I don't think I agree with any one on the color. I have 2, 94 Wombat engines and a 94A Wombat. I just finished restoring the 94A and none of them were painted. I just polished them up and they look great. I polished them up and did not see any paint residue on any of them. Look at the pictures. I maybe wrong but I didn't see it. I did see it on my 64 Ace 90, so I did paint them with the pewter I got from Paul, Pic Enclosed. Click on the pictures to enlarge them.

None of the model 94s came with black cases or side covers from the factory. ALL of the model 94 and 94A machines have been floating around for four decades or so, so it isn't surprising that different color side covers and dip sticks might show up on some of 'em.
