73 COMBAT WOMBAT

I have a 1973 Combat Wombat and I'm rebuilding the motor, I have removed the primary gear and did not mark it for re assembly as the manual states, Is there another way to tell which side goes up or down?

Usually, if you look closely, you can see faint marks where the inside rest against the main shaft and bearing and the outside will show marks where the washer rested against it.
