I took an Ace motor apart, to put new seals in it. Motor was running, albeit poorly, when I took it apart.
Installed new seals, put it back together, and now something is locking it up. It’s turns only so far, then locks and won’t turn. It spun freely after putting the case screws in.
But some time after that it hangs up. I’ve had the motor apart twice more and get the same results each time. Not finding anything jamming up the gears when I pull it apart! Anyone else ever have this experience? I could use some ideas….Thanks. Victor
Yup. For sure. Lee told me to check that the woodruff key didn’t move and get stuck inside the flywheel. I think I used Yamabond on the key, I believe….but I guess we’ll find out…. Victor
Apart twice and then the first time. Turns over after the case screws are installed, Does it turn over after the clutch is on? Go slow, check it one step at a time and you will find the answer. I have never glued on the key and I never would, however others may have found, it to be of help to them. -------------- Clarence
Well, as it turns out I was having low blood sugar while putting the motor back together. I set the flywheel down and the magnets picked up some extra shims which stuck to the inside of the flywheel. They got bent up under the flywheel and jammed it up. Soon as I pulled the flywheel, I found them.
No more skipping lunch & working straight thru. Must remember to stop & eat so my blood sugar levels don’t drop, making me less observant. She’s all back together & kicking over nicely. Hoping I can finish up today. This has been a long build. Victor
