What were the changes that were made from the super rat 93A TO THE 93B? 10 extra bonus points for whoever submits the highest, frame serial number, for their ace 100. Whoever submits their number will receive two free bonus points.

Victor you are spot on for change to the 93A super rat to the 93B, on the spark arrester. The handle bars show the same number from the 92A, 92b, B+and through the super rats as part number 938740?? The small capped forks with a removable dampener my references show the super rat 93A going to the small caps at frame number B53413 and that the 92B used the same small cap beginning with frame number A51713. My data for the super rat frames lists the 93, 93A and the 93B as part number 938600. Victor please help me with this if you will. -------------- Clarence

Being a hodaka dealer at a young age, I started my shop in the fall of 1964. Racing every chance that came by, I tried every product and oil that came out. To mention some things that didn't work for me,I straight cut gears just didn't help that I could tell, Fancy custom heads looked good but stock ones seemed to work just fine.. I really liked the Webco items although the early handle bars were ugly. I installed several webco 125 cc kits, they ran very good at first but most seemed to get tried quickly. The Webco cushion sprocket worked very good for me and is still on my 90 racer I think it made the ware factor longer as the teeth really held up. I could really tell the difference and advantage with the full floating rear brake for motorcross, remember I always ran the old ace 90. On a stock hodaka there was a backing plate stay that locked the rear backing plate to the swing arm, and if your foot was close to the brake pedal, then hitting a bump would lock your rear wheel a big deal on a 90. The full floating back brake was not solid to the axle but floated on a bushing, the stay ran parallel to the swing arm and fastened to the frame the same distance as the swing arm I used the lower back engine mount bolt. If you don't follow me I will post pictures. My system is van Tech and is still my ace 90. The compression release was one of the best additions to my ace 90 for motocross and cross country races and playing. If your brakes got wet the compression release was a good way to slow down, On steep down hills like the hodaka days cross country reunion ride, if you locked up the back brake you would pick up speed. while using the compression release the rear wheel turned ever so slowly I believe it would have stopped the hodaka without touching the brake on the down hill. The expansion chamber, proper carburetor size, porting and reed valve were unbelievable. The biggest factor of performance for stock or racing is the tuner

How many different aluminum 125 cylinders did hodaka make and what was the difference between the 94 and the 94A? ---------------- Clarence

94A changes included:
Different pipe with screw on adaptor for slip fit.
Addition of turn signals.
Larger taillight.
Added current limiter in attempt to address lamp burnout issues.

94A also went to a 3.50x18 rear tire, where the 94 came with a 3.00x18. Not sure, but that might have been when they changed from 423 chain to 428?
Different aluminum cylinders for the 125:
1: Combat Wombat
2: Super Combat
3: 03 Wombat.

How about this question? How do you identify the "size" (factory displacement) of a small bore Hodaka alloy cylinder from 20 paces? (i.e. no touching, no measuring, no looking down the bore)

Regarding chain size, I believe that the model 94 switched over to 428 chain shortly after their production began and before the 94A. I could be wrong, but that is what I recall.

6 cylinder fins vs 7? But at 20 paces, your eyesight is better than mine!

That's it Dale. Six fins on a Hodaka alloy cylinder means it is 100cc (Model 98, 99, 01 and 02). Seven fins equates to 125cc (Model 95, 97 and 03).

And for Clarence - Identifying exactly which 125cc cylinder you might have in hand gets more difficult if the cylinder has been "ported" . . . but here goes with data/comments for STOCK cylinders

Model 95 Combat Wombat -- piston port induction - so no holes through the "ceiling" of the intake port into the bottom of the Victory Port. 28mm from top of exhaust port to head gasket deck.

Model 97 Super Combat -- reed valve induction - so there isn't a "ceiling" in the intake port. (ie, direct flow to the "Victory Port" area and through holes in the piston skirt) 26mm from top of exhaust port to head gasket deck.

Model 03 Wombat (painted tank, primary kick) - reed valve induction - so there isn't a "ceiling" in the intake port. (ie, direct flow to the "Victory Port" area and through holes in the piston skirt) 30mm from top of exhaust port to head gasket deck.

Thank you Ed that really helped me. It looks like the intake porting is different also. The intake manifold on the combat wombat will bolt up to the 92B super rat. The 03 and 97 super combat have the same intake manifold spacing. When I am wrong please tell me. ----------- Clarence

Hmmmm, I don't know whether the Model 97 and Model 03 reed assemblies were the same. A review of part numbers would probably shed light on that.

I'm a little surprised about the comment that the Combat Wombat and iron cylinder Super Rat's have the same bolt pattern. I didn't expect that.

Yes, there are differences in the porting across the 125cc alloy cylinders . . . I've just internalized (and repeated) the dimension from the top of the exhaust port to the head gasket deck because 1) that is an easy thing to measure 2) the measurement is definitive on a stock cylinder for identifying exactly which cylinder it is and 3) that exhaust port height measurement is a dang good indicator of the type of power band the cylinder produces.

Back in the late 60's John Cosco came to my hodaka shop on center street in Kalispell montana, This was my second shop. I bought the old stage coach building and corner lot for 1,200 dollars room for the showroom parts and repair. A local young lad Max Amasager had stopped by on his 100cc bultaco to visit. Well max was debating about some race and the outcome with John. I will always remember John saying ' seeing how you weren't there I guess you wouldn't know". Max also stated how much faster his 100cc bultaco was compared to a hodaka, Well Jay or Bob Cornell was there and offered their stock ace 100 for me to race Max. We went out on the Foys lake road. Lined up with a flag raise and It was not a race AS I remember Max was about half as fast going through the gears as the hodaka. For some reason I connected John with PABATCO and I think he was a hodaka distributor out of Wyoming or Utah. I will always remember him stopping by. --------- Clarence

One more question on aluminum cylinders, what cylinder had the bridge in the exhaust port and were we to remove it? And now hodaka question, what was the retail list price for the Ace 100 model 92, and 100B models 92A, 92B, 92B+. Also how many flyers came in every ace100 crate? Finally, what was the frame number of the last Ace100? -------------- Clarence

I can only address the first question - The Road Toad alloy cylinder (used on Models 99, 01 and 02) had an exhaust bridge - and no, it wasn't to be removed, but it had to be "relieved". i.e. it needed to have a bit of extra clearance in order to run reliably.

99/02 Toads & 01 Squirts all have the same cylinder with an exhaust bridge. The bridge is not removed. It is relieved after boring, .003 so as to keep it from swelling into the cylinder & causing piston seizures. If I remember correctly from the Hodaka Book, it was Jim Gentry & Ed Chesnut who reproduced the bridge seizures at PABATCO to determine the bridge needed to be relieved!!! :ugeek: Victor

Thanks Ed and victor. I pulled out a pile of AL cylinders and its not that easy to know what they all fit. I sold the shop and never rode anything after the combat wombat. Just looking at some of my old records, I had 6 rats, a couple of combat wombats and other 100 cc models, on the floor at one time, + Ossa and about 15 used motorcycles, 30 in all . ----- Clarence
