Granddaughter Build!

Post by viclioce »

I picked up a Model 92 a few weeks ago and decided since it has 17” wheels, that I would build this one with my granddaughter & this would be her bike! Bought everything in the first pic for $250. I think it was a great deal!

I had her take the bike apart down to the roller. I think she looks rather pleased with herself. Then I stripped the wheel’s & suspension off it and took it to be sand blasted!

Today, it was warm enough to paint. So that frame got 2 coats of self etching primer, then a rub down with 0000 steel wool, followed by 2 coats of Old Ford Motor Blue, from Duplicolor!

Today I worked on an Ace tank which was given to me by a friend. The chrome was mostly gone from the tank but a little copper was still showing in places. I used my pad sander with 120 grit paper and worked off the rust and smoothed it out best I could. Then I shot the tank with self etching primer.

After the primer, I worked on filling the minor dents & dings with glazing putty. I then sanded the glazing putty and added more where needed. After drying, I sanded again, working to round the areas which needed rounding. Continued sanding and added a 3rd round of glazing putty to fill cracks & uneven areas.

The 3rd sanding now, with 220 grit to slow things down and make the surfaces finer & smoother. Then a coat of 2 X primer and letting it dry over night. The attached pics show the progression.

We are due to get hit with possible snow tomorrow. A 30% chance of 1/2” or less is the forecast. Probably get back to it over the weekend when it warms back up into the 60’s again! :ugeek: Victor

She already did! She wants it painted like a Super Combat. So the frame is already Old Ford Motor Blue & the tank will be Farm Implement Orange! She originally wanted the bike orange & black. But then she looked at my 1500 and said “But if we paint mine orange and black, we might not be able to tell our bikes apart!” So I showed her a pic of a Super Combat & she said she liked that. I told her that way her frame would be blue and mine would be black & there wouldn’t be any confusion! Gotta love 8 year olds!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Victor
