Ace 90 handle plate

Post by taber hodaka »

Does anyone have the ace 90 heavy duty handle plate? I think it changed the rake and it is way heavier than stock. Stamped angel on the bottom and I think it was made by Tiger industries. they weigh about one pound or twice what the stock one did. -------- Clarence

Wouldn't you have to bend (????) the lower (cast iron) triple clamp for a rake change by changing out only the handle plate?

PS: I don't quite see how a handle plate change could work to change "rake" . . . It would change "trail" if it made the fork legs not parallel with the steering head (but a bend in the lower triple clamp would also be required). Still stumped by this one.

I found the ad in the back of one of my ACE90 parts lists books, along with dealer bulletin Vll. In a two page yellow ad,--- Tiger Distributing Company 653 West Broadway Glendale California,
Item T-251-H.--------Angel rake plate
( polished aluminum - increases fork rake approx. 1&1/2inches).
Fits Hodaka ACE 90 & ACE 100.
It worked very well for me in the 60's, on my motocross & crosscountry ACE 90 with extended forks.
I just found it the other day. ------------- Clarence

Thanks for that post Clarence. I'm reading between the lines, but I'm guessing that the Tiger handle plate "reached down" to clamp the top of the fork legs - allowing the fork legs to not have to be pushed up as far as "stock" thru the lower triple clamp. This would raise the front of the bike and would indeed increase "rake" (and increase "trail" . . . which was what you were really after - more stability/self centering at speed). There is a fairly detailed treatise on rake and trail in the Resonator Revisited. Sorry, I don't have time right now to look it up . . . I'm busier than a one-armed paper hanger right now, what with Hodaka Days just around the corner. Hope to see you in Athena!
