CW Pipe….
CW Pipe….
Is way off!!!
I bought this CW pipe from a guy on the Hodaka FanClub page. He told me he used it on an Ace for a while. Said he wanted it to go to someone who would use it. Here are some pics….
The header to the front of the expansion chamber look OK, and compare well to my Original CW & pipe… The tab also matches up closely to the rubber pad on the under the tank mount… However, as we get to the last bend and the tail section, she’s way off in location to the frame… Any ideas??? Did someone do something funky to the weld joints on this pipe?
It sticks out way too far on the left side and there’s like zero room for the Carb! I would like to use this pipe, but not sure where to begin to correct it…
This is my reeded CW motor in the 94 Wombat frame. I was given a CW air box for it, which I want to mount, but there’s no way it’s fitting with this pipe the way it is now. And I don’t want to screw up the pipe, although, it looks like a DPO may have already done that.
Any advise on this would be appreciated. If I can’t bring it in, close enough to the frame, I’ll go back to the 94A/03 Wombat style pipe I had on it. Which means finding another round air box because I moved the one I had on this bike to the 94 Wombat I redid this past Fall.
Do give me your best shots!!! Victor

Re: CW Pipe….
have you tried it with pipe running on other side of bike?
Re: CW Pipe….
It’s not designed to fit that way. I just want to get it to not be in the way and fit properly. But thanks! Victor

Re: CW Pipe….
It would take some pretty good tweaks to fit up a CW pipe on an older Ace frame. My WAG (Wild A _ _ Guess) is that the head pipe was changed in significant ways. It would have been modified to fit up to an Ace cylinder (possibly) -- which might even mean that a smaller diameter Ace era header was installed (from another pipe). So header diameter is the first thing to compare to your other CW pipe. A new header can be built up from auto exhaust U-bends. The process won't be easy, but that looks like a pretty good pipe for "saving".
Keep the rubber side down!
Re: CW Pipe….
Just a guess but it would appear that the head pipe has a much tighter bend than original. It's hard to tell from the pictures but the weld between the head pipe and expansion chamber doesn't look factory to me. Maybe you could try fitting it to an ACE to see if it fits that frame configuration. If it does, rather than trying to modify it back to stock configuration, it may be useful to you or someone else on a project ACE. I'm sure you're disappointed that it doesn't fit though.

Well, a simple notch & re-weld should take care of it then! I have muffler guys in the family. I’ll just roll it up in the truck and take it to one of them. Victor

Re: CW Pipe….
Well….Good News!!!!
The pipe decided to cooperate this evening. All of a sudden, it moved into the correct position. I only had to remove the center spring and give it a twist. Tried as I may, I couldn’t move it yesterday. Today, however, it cooperated!
It’s all back together now! I have enough room for the carb, even with the reed assembly on, and I even found a shorter air boot which connects the carb to the CW air box!!!
Tomorrow, I’ll get gas and make premix and give her a few kicks! Victor

Re: CW Pipe….
You have the center bracket mounted in the wrong spot.
Re: CW Pipe….
OK! Good to know. I just assumed it went in the same location as the one for the round air boxes! That’s an easy move! Thx! Victor
