Road Toad Regulator on Wombat
Road Toad Regulator on Wombat
I would like to replace the current limiter on my Wombat 94A with a Road Toad regulator. I've seen rlkarren's schematic and it is straightforward.
The Wombat current limiter mounts on the right side of the battery box below the turn signal flasher.
Where is the regulator mounted on a Road Toad? Based on auction pix of Road Toad frames I'm guessing under the tank?

Re: Road Toad Regulator on Wombat
Yes it's mounted under the tank on a RT. I know this because I got to help someone with a RT at HD14 and he ended up winning one of the RT awards in the bike show. . Not that my electrical work had anything to do with it.
Anyway, I used the current limiter mounting tabs to mount mine on my Wombat. I used a piece of sheet metal and cut it to length to cover the mounting tabs, then bent it in half lengthwise. Drill two holes to mount to the bike on one side and one hole to mount the VR. I can post a photo if interested.

Thanks for the info. The used regulators you see are always pretty clean so I figured they were up and out of the weather.
I thought about putting it in back of the rectifier, but it would be fairly tight even if a bracket could be fashioned. A picture of your setup would be great when you get a chance. I'm sure a few Wombats will be getting this mod.

This is good timing that you brought this up. I am wanting to do the same thing to my Wombat.
Where did you find the schematic you refer to?
Cheers

Yeap, that's the image I posted. And turns out to be correct.
There was another discussion where Laurie was replacing a 125cc in her Ace 90 that may also be relevant in regards to placing a VR on an Ace here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=453
I'm including two diagrams to this post:
First diagram is the full Wombat, (Model 94 and 94A), Wiring diagram as posted in the Wiring Diagrams section in Tech tips and the Wombat Manual with the VR included: Second diagram is the same diagram but I removed all the turn signal wiring for those who have a Model 94 to make it less confusing. I'll add a photo of how I mounted the VR to the bike as soon as I remember to take the photo(s).
