Motorcycle Brands in the 1960's and 1970's

Maguro is another maker of motorcycle. It was taken over by Kawasaki. The first Kawasaki 'SG-250' I rode had 'Maguro' on the tank. A real nice 250 road bike.

Herters sold a lot of interesting stuff at great prices. 'Takes the hokum out of---' I still have one of their catalogs and recently saw one of their snowmobiles.

It looks like Meguro was a stand alone company until sometime in 1960 when it merged with Kawasaki. So indeed it qualifies.

If you are listing limited production bikes, there is an old trials favorite (using Hodaka engines, built by Bill Grapevine) the GRM.

Believe it or not, Pop, my neighbor had one. His dad brought it back from somewhere during his military service. He took that thing everywhere they went so he always had wheels - which we envied.

Some other mini bikes that I missed are Arctic Cat, Coleman, and Tote Gote.

Hey, I just saw a brand new Coleman minibike at the Fleet Farm. Rip cord motor and the whole schmeer.

The Tote Gotes were pretty popular trail scooters for a while.

Sears had their name on some mopeds.

And there was KEYSTONE minibikes. Two-stroke TAS motor with manual clutch.
One brake on the rear wheel, but at least it was a drum and not a tire binder.

I don't think Massimo was around in the 60's and 70's, but I'm not sure. Couldn't find any evidence of it. The Massimo company that makes mini bikes today is much younger than that. Thanks for the idea though. The list now is up to 212 largely due to the suggestions from this group. I started adding actual dates of operation for the various companies but it's a daunting task.
