Another Wombat Project

The Rats frustrate me! So I started work on a 1971 Model 94 Wombat. I am redoing this bike for my youngest daughter & her husband.

What I’ve done so far, is complete disassembly, sandblasted the frame, chain guard & headlight bucket, painted the frame, chain guard & headlight bucket and started roller reassembly.

I’ve also completely disassembled the motor. On Saturday, the major motor pieces go out for vapor blasting.

The forks were really trashed. Pitted badly on the upper tubes in 3 locations, including above the dust covers, and the dampeners were broken inside the forks. Got one apart, but the other just spins inside the lower tube. Cant remove the bottom Allen bolt. So I bought a good used set of Toad forks from Ryan Florke for $125 shipped.

Also, new tires arrived late this evening. Interesting thing. This is Hodaka #12, and the first one which didn’t have rusted and/or bent handlebars!

Well I sorta forgot about this thread, so here’s some catching up!

Got the frame all together, sorted out the wiring harness, re-terminating with all new bullet connectors! Secured wire harness. For those who wonder, I use the wiring diagram (when I really need it), and connect going clockwise from the headlight & AC/DC switch. Goes very quickly that way.

I got the bored cylinder & piston kit from Terry and it went together fine, after pinching the side of my thumb between the bottom of the cylinder and the upper ring (O^€£*#!!!!). Probably left a very small piece of skin in there! Head went on, finished pipe, I had to fab a mounting tab & weld it on. Touched up the paint and finally found my exhaust gasket I found under my work bench.

Tank, I bought from one of the Guys on Facebook who goes by Carroll Shelby, and I had a great seat waiting in my storage cabinet (along with my Super Combat seat I bought from Kelly!).

Had to buy a good chrome headlight ring. Got the headlight assembled. Forgot about the broken right front tank bolt before painting frame. Had to file it flat before I could drill it. But a left handed drill bit pulled the remainder of the bolt out once I had a pilot hole drilled!

So here’s the finished product! Oil has been in it for 2 days and no cursed oil leaks this go around. Yeay!!! Just need to throw some fuel in tomorrow and see if timing needs any adjusting. Victor
