ive read this on this forum ......Sometime you can make extra thick fiber plates, by carefully sanding off one side of two plates, making them into one thick plate. This is a great use for plates that are knackered on only one side. One clutch I use has two pairs of fibers done this way. As long as there is a steel against the stamped cover, and the gap is correct, the clutch should release and hold without slipping.....so i guess your only stopped by your own imagination

ossa95d wrote: Wed Nov 18, 2020 6:54 am The schematic for the 03 shows 5 steel and 4 fiber. That's probably why the rebuild kit had that configuration. I'm just trying to make sure to keep everyone confused.
Check the sequence shown in the schematic too. Not what one might assume.

Yes the 03 Wombat clutch is not like the typical earlier configurations found in other Wombats. :ugeek: Victor

That looks like a very nice start to a great bike. I had seen this bike listed and wondered where it might end up. Nice work!

little up date . my new friend, the old hodaka dealer in town , came over and we started to put the motor togeather so were cleaning it up , which i thought was very clean already , tells you how much i know, we were working on it for a while and he says you know we should really get this bead blasted to clean it up good and the guy who bored the cylinder out just happens to have one so the patina build might need a new name. he took the parts and got them back today. wow what do you say, they look great. uh well i asked how much or what could i do for him and the guy who blasted them and he said nothing he had a good time hanging out in the shop and he had to sweep the floor. im kinda over whelmed with it all right now but will make it right. when he has the time we will finish putting the motor together. the photo with the shifter cover laying on it shows how much better the parts look

No, no grinder. Break out the propane torch. The exhaust manifold is aluminum, when heated it will expand more than the steel pipe. With a standard home style propane torch, you would have to work awfully hard to over heat the manifold. So heat it up then tap it off with wood block and a hammer. You might want a buddy to pin the pipe to the ground for the tapping operation. I recommend a cold Porter, a glass of nice rose', or a shot of Yukon Jack for post-manifoldectomy toasts with a friend. (or all three???)

You want to save the exhaust manifold? Then the Captain’s way will work best. Also, if you wrap a cool wet towel around the pipe it will heat up less. :ugeek: Victor

Several heat cycles will surely help - and your favorite penetrating oil too. Large channel-lock pliers and twisting action could also be good - but take care to 1) not crush the manifold or 2) leave a bunch of plier tooth marks.

well victor as you might know a while back i dragged ,quite literally, a 03 wombat home that i was going to just get running leave as original as possible, but once i got in to it i found that there were rust issues and lots of missing parts so i picked up another 03 that had parts that i needed , so im making one street legal , and one dirt. as for the pipes i now have two pipes that i can make work. and the header and spark arrester end were to good to not clean up for the future .we will see what develops.....albert
