down for low

Post by jonellis »

Does anyone know if there is a shifter/ignition cover that will convert my ace 100 to a down for low pattern?

Find a shift cover which says HODAKA instead of ACE 100. The HODAKA covers are a traditional 1d 4u shifter! Watch out though. They are at times getting pricey. I guess there aren’t a lot left around which aren’t still in use. :ugeek: Victor

Dan. I’ll take that one! I have a busted shifter case but have all the shifter hardware in a ziplock bag.

The case I have, has a wide crack 3/4 of the way across the front of the flywheel cover section. (See pic attached)

I could build that one if you’ll sell it to me. I have a Dirt Squirt that needs a shifter case! Let me know! :ugeek: Victor

Someone must have run into something really hard with it on a Combat Wombst! Looks like it needs to be thrown! I tried braising it with those “Simple Welding Rods” but I couldn’t get the case hot enough to melt the rods or get it to stick. So I gave up on it.

I’ve thought about sending it to Alan to have his guy weld it for me. But it would cost more than $50 in round trip shipping.

Anyone else here do aluma-welding & could fix it for me? :ugeek: Victor

From what I see, JB Weld should result in a quite serviceable cover.

Put the JB weld on the inside, then it is not on the outside bondo the outside and it could look as pretty as new. I will add a shift cover that can be rebuilt, to my super rat frame number contest along with the new superrat piston good used super rat coil and the new ring. ---------- Clarence

I second JB weld. I’ve used it for the same type of repair About ten years ago and it’s still holding up. Cheap, easy and effective for a rider.

OK. Well at least you responded. I do have an alumna-welder here. Just haven’t had a reason or need to take this cover to him. :ugeek: Victor

If he’s good have him give it a shot. You may be surprised and will take him more work. Keep it local.

Victor you probably have many aluminum welders in your area. If you are close to Albuquerque A to Z welding sounds really good with allot of good refferences, 660 Haines Ave NW phone 505 236 8353 Clarence

Is the only damage the crack in the front? Is there any chain damage at the back?

My Custom Trials S.R. (with a 01 Dirt Squirt engine) has the foot pegs moved back (for Trials) and the Shifter Lever turned
around so "Low" is Reversed (Down for 1st).

ribuhite,

Something isn't adding up. An 01 Dirt Squirt engine has a separate magneto cover and separate shifter cover with "down-for-first" shift pattern. If you reverse the shift lever on that engine to reach foot pegs which are set back . . . the shift pattern will be "up-for-first".

On the other hand, IF you have a model 96 Dirt Squirt engine AND it has a replacement Ace 100 magneto/shifter cover (Ace 100 molded into the outside face of the cover) AND you reverse the shift lever for set-back pegs . . . THEN you'll have "down-for-first" shifting.
