Engine Number Sorted
Engine Number Sorted
First time on this site....and so happy to find some support....not around in 97 for us.
I just took the engine out of it's frame...thats been in the rafters for 23 years. My son and had it running for a day or so back in 97. I'm a bit perplexed by the odd numbers below and left of the exhaust port. They read ......
......... M7 480.....can't find any numbers like this in the extensive list online. (my space between 7 & 4 was incorrect) Fixed that below...sorry those who were thrown by that.
We plan on doing a complete rebuild, checking the shifting dogs as well. ok here are those engine numbers clearly.

Re: Engine Number Odd
Could you post a pic of the number?
Re: Engine Number Odd
Yes, picture please.
The engine appears to certainly be Super Rat (chrome tank). The number starting with an M does confirm that. My first guess is that it is M7480 with a space inserted by mistake. That would make it a model 93A. Based on the following chart, any number M7x480 would not be feasible.
Model 93 starting engine number: 1001
Model 93A starting engine number: 5750
Model 93B starting engine number: 12434

Re: Engine Number Odd
Maybe there’s just a bit more space between the 7 & the 4? If so, the number could be M7480, which would make it a 93A.... Victor

Re: Engine Number Odd
would that make it about frame number 57025?? sometimes we have to assume assumptions. Or speculate to achieve perceived outcomes. ------- Clarence
Re: Engine Number Odd
Thanks for your input folks...I think it is a 93A super Rat...still haven't gotten that frame down from the rafters but when I went to check the head badge..it fell off in my hand like a dried leaf. HUH? Looking closer I noticed an additional head tube welded to the original...The head badge read Apr-1971 B- 571687
Re: Engine Number Odd
Lowered the original flat track Ace 100 down from it's perching point since 1992. My own barn find.
Brought it home and did a mock up using the block from the museum purchase Hodaka which has a scoured cylinder but gave up its piston easily....so it wasn't seized. That engine is shown temporarily in the racer here.
Yah know.....this little guy is kinda growing on me again after so many years have past. It actually has the best engine of the three I now own. It's on the bench getting freshened up. Gonna need a mentor on these projects...I do have a Manuel but some questions I have would greatly appreciated....like...The flat tracker has
a coil under the tank, but the other Rat I couldn't find one under the steel tank ?
