Crankshaft assembly question

I am getting ready to have my crankshaft pressed together with a new connecting rod. Is there a side to side crank measurement that needs to be held? This is for a 1971 93A Super Rat. I searched the forum and didn't see anything.

.006 to .008. Specs can be found in the Hodakaparts.com library section.

I think he’s looking at outside distance so it can be pressed and not be too wide or too narrow. My guy usually measures that distance before he disassembles the crank.

You may be right. He may be looking for something different. Since the crank is centered by the torque of the clutch nut pulling the crank against the right side bearing, which is locked in place by the snap ring, the correct side play of the rod is the only variable in the cranks width. If you have crank "assembly" side play somethings wrong.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I just sent an email to Al for the scan of the shop manual. It sounds like the only dimension I need is the rod clearance between the crank halves which is .006 to .008 as old dog said. I did find it in the library.
I want to get the engine back together first and then I will start on the rest of the bike. I will probably have more in it than it is worth, but it is a neat little bike and a great retirement project. With any luck, I will have it rideable for Hodaka Days

We all can say that! I don’t even count my labor hours. It’s not worth the calculation. I build these bikes out of love for them & a desire to keep them alive! I’m finishing up my 9th restoration. My first Super Rat! Time to change the tires and clean the wheels! ugeek: Victor

That rat looks just like the one I have. There is hope for it!
I just finished the Wombat last summer. They will be trail bikes.
