New Hodaka Owner

Post by bens4X4 »

Hey guys! I am a new owner of a 1970 Super Rat 100. This was my uncles as a teenager. It was driven less than frequently and has spent the last 40 some years inside a garage. All parts are there, including the air cleaner, just not on the bike currently.

My plan is to get the bike to working condition. A friend offered to powdercoat everything for me, but it's only original once, so I think I plan to keep the paint as it is. After getting it home and giving a few gentle wipes, the paint came out much more red and shiny. The stainless steel fenders and the gas tank are in great shape.
One question I have is about the coil... can't find a Model 93 coil on Hodaka Parts. I found one from an Ace 100 however and am wondering if this one will work. It's 6V.
Edit: Also has Wiseco aftermarket piston and piston ring installed too. Pretty cool original upgrade

Check with Bruce Young at HodakaPartsIdaho.com. Also Call Terry at Hodaka-Parts and ask him if he has a used one he can sell you!
Terry - (314) 313-5635
Bruce - (208) 571-2823

One of them should have a used one. No one has any new ones! :ugeek: Victor

The shop manual indicates the Super Rat Ignition Coil mounts differently than the Ace.

It's primary and secondary coil resistances are slightly different than the Ace 100.

If you have an Ace 100 coil and can mount it, I'd use it.

If you have no coil, a Used Ace coil would be serviceable.

If you'd like the Shop Manual pages regarding this please email me and I will email the pages to you.

An Ace 100 coil will work fine. The main difference was the Super Rat coil had a clamp that clamped around the small backbone tube, where the Ace 100 had a mounting tab welded to the backbone tube that the coil mounted to.

The problem with using an Ace spark plug coil is you have to make a mount to attach it. If you can weld it isn’t a big job. But buying a Super Rat coil is a better idea. There is a coil, with a Super Rat stator & flywheel in eBay right now. But I’d call Bruce or Terry. :ugeek: Victor
