This has gotten a bit out of control. Stiffening up the swingarm is complete. Front section boxed in and arm rails added. It weighs 700g more than a stock wombat arm but the frame will break before the swingarm will. Paint to come.

Uh yeah, about frame breaking. Here is another good place to gusset.

Part of the case Reed installation required removing some engine mount bracing to allow the carby to fit. It’s actually more like a road toad set up. I reinforced the rear engine mount with a doubler with 2 mm sheet metal to make up for it.

Ok I’ve done a bit of bracing in the frame area

Not pretty but functional. It’s a bit restricted in what can be done due to the seat mounting lugs.

Also attached is a picture of a Road Tiad frame. I can see what looks like extra bracing from the factory. I which I had seen that earlier .

I had the opportunity to make a adjustable pedal height for the brake pedal.
I think it’s worked well. Plenty of strength still on the footpegs mount as it’s solid not tube.

After a day of fabrication I have the silencer sorted out. It’s a DEP KTM125SX from 2002.I had to completely disassemble it , shorten 1 inch and put back together. You would think an easy job as it’s “ re- packable however DEP had bonded it so no amount to persuasion worked except the hacksaw.
I have fired up the bike , incredible throttle response if I say so myself. I haven’t ridden it yet because I live deep in a city.

Ok I think I’m done now, at least until I find a money tree. I’d really like to make a Chrome Molly frame and have some modern wheels but that’s a pipe dream . I’m really looking forward to riding it in a couple of weeks time . It’s been extremely fun to do even if I admit to more than usual swearing on some days .
Thanks for your interest in the project , it’s always nice to hear the point of view of others and of course the encouragement that came my way. You can’t do this in a vacuum.

Well after some constructive criticisms sticking in my head I dumped the airbox and made up a new design. This one allows a larger filter and reduces weight . I made a version with an aluminium mikuni “trumpet mouth “ and then a short while after I came across a 35deg reducing rubber elbow that allows a smooth taper from the filter to the carby inlet. I went with that one . Not sure if the two would be different to be honest.

I also fabricated an alloy chain guide . I’m hoping this will allow me to remove the chain tensioner.

Also on the go is a rebuild of the engine cases from V 1 of the case Reed design. I ran these cases for a year before I went to V2 that has the Reed block welded on to each half , it also allowed a larger Reed block. With the V1 redesign I’m making the Reed block from a KX85/100 fit so it’s slightly wider than a stock 97 Reed block . With a bit of filing I can get the Kawi block into the 97 Reed manifold but I might use the bill it block , not sure yet.
I’m making good use of COVID lockdown time.
