Cautiously Moving Forward with Plans for Hodaka Days 2021

Hoping for the best, but prepared for anything

The Hodaka Club board and other key organizers met (virtually, of course) on November 19th to discuss options for Hodaka Days 2021.

Obviously, the current pandemic situation makes it difficult to anticipate what the future might bring. But if we’re going to have an event this year, then we need to set some things in motion. Many options were discussed varying from moving ahead with our full traditional event, to changing the date, to running a scaled-down event, to canceling Hodaka Days altogether as we were forced to do in 2020.

In the end, the decision was made to continue forward with planning for a full event on the traditional last full weekend in June (June 24 through June 27) in Athena and Weston, Oregon. The group will reconvene again in late February to make a final “go / no go” decision.

My thinking is this. Vaccines should be plentiful before June. Maybe move it forward a month if not available to everyone in June.

Folks should bring proof that they....
A. Have already had Covid-19, or...
B. They were vaccinated prior to the event.
C. If you haven’t proof of either then you need to show up with a negative Covid test result done less than 4 days prior to the event. Or, you could just make having been vaccinated a mandatory requirement for attending.

I would think that would be prudent enough to hold the event without risk. People need to be aware of their personal condition. They shouldn’t go if it’s been longer than a week since their last test and they don’t know their own status. That’s my take on it.

The doctors at the hospital here said a person who has had Covid less than 3 months ago, can come into contact with someone who is still contagious. If it’s been more than 3 months since a positive testing, a person should have a vaccination as they can not guarantee you won’t get it again.

That’s what I’ve learned, having had Covid-19 the beginning of November and hospitalizing my wife for Covid Pneumonia on November 17th. Victor

Most of the event social distancing wouldn’t be a real issue. At the park most people don’t get that close. The only real issue is the Saturday night banquet at the school. Outside of any meals people have together in our respective lodging places. The rides with a little common sense should be able to go on smoothly. Masks should be recommended.
