ok another question.. can i run this 03 wombat with just the Exciting coil with out the other 2 coils ? so i can take off all the unnecessary wires and stuff to make it strictly a dirt bike.. i have a b+ and it just needs the wires to the ignition coil is this the same thing....albert

They are required. The lighting coils can be blank cores, but need to be in place per the shop manual. I won't speculate on the science behind it...

So ok I can take wires off at the lighting coils and all the wire that goes with them but leave them in place .I wouldn't take the wire off the coils of course I think that answered my question. I'm th I king of making this a strictly off road bike as some of the more hard to find and expensive parts are missing and there was a real nice one I saw ...albert

been awhile so here's an up date. so long story,, i ride on the street with a friend who remembers being on the school bus in the little town that we live in and seeing hodakas lined up in front of a motorcycle shop. all the kids would cram on that side of the bus and stare at them. move on to late last year and we were talking about it and we decided to go talk to the gentleman who owned the shop well covid came around and it seemed like not so good of an idea just to go knocking on some body's door so just put it off, well i knew where he lived and one day about 3 months ago i was driving by and lo and behold they were having a garage sale, well hell i stoped in and asked if it was he was the guy that had the hodaka dealership and yes it was. we had a half hour conversation and i invited him over any time to look and talk hodaka's. the next day i figured i'd let him know i was series so i rode my 94 wombat over to there house and gave him my email , phone number and address. again we had a very nice visit and he asked if he could sit on the wombat and i swear his eyes got misty [ i might be embellishing here ] any way at the time he said he knew a guy who could posable bore out the cylinder on this 03 as the guy owed him a favor so i ran into him last week and yesterday i gave him the cylinder and piston and rings to get bored out . he is a very nice guy all though he has been away from hodakas for some time it seems its still in his blood its very nice for me to see the enthusiasm he still has im excited to know some body local, less than 2 miles away, that knows what there doing . ive told him if he wants i would be honored if he wants he could put the engine together when i have all the parts its been a wile since he's had the pleasure so we will see how it goes.......albert

got the cylinder and piston back today could of not gone any better cylinder bored , honed, and a coating on the piston as he said there were some wear marks, 50.00 bucks..one more thing off the list.. before and after on the piston

So what’s the bore on this? Is it a .020? I don’t remember...

The stock bore is 56mm. Stroke is the same as all 90, 100, 125cc models - 50mm.

wondering if there's any tricks to chamfering port openings in a freshly honed bore. watched a few video's and doesn't look to critical , asking before i jump in ....albert

took the time to take the clutch apart before i send one more order to terry, found a bad bearing but the thing that got me confused was the clutch plates were pretty well stuck together but when i went to get a rebuilt kit the number of steel plates and fiber plates dont match, the clutch i took apart has 4 steel and 5 fiber plates, on the clutch rebuild package its the reverse 4 fiber and 5 steel plates ... what gives put it back like i found it or put it back with the rebuild package....albert

I’d go to the std configuration, which would be 4 steel & 5 fiber plates. That’s the way it’s designed to work. Being non-standard may have contributed to the clutch issues. May have been a DPO issue. When in doubt, go with original. Victor

The schematic for the 03 shows 5 steel and 4 fiber. That's probably why the rebuild kit had that configuration. I'm just trying to make sure to keep everyone confused.

As a general rule on clutches you need to have at least one steel plate between every fiber plate in order to take advantage of the friction between the plates, but you can double up on steel plates anywhere in the stack to achieve the desired overall thickness without adversely affecting clutch operation. I need to qualify this by saying that this is my general rule only based on my own understanding of how clutches work.

I've seen that in a few clutches I've rebuilt, Pop. In those instances, the extra steels were serving as shims to squeek a bit more service out of worn discs.
