Super Rat Rear Number Plate Brackets

Post by viclioce »

A couple of questions.

First, what color are the brackets? Are they red like the frame, black, or some other color?

Second, can someone give me the over all length of the bracket, end to end, as if the piece were still straight?

Terry doesn’t have any listed in stock. So, I’m going to fab up a set and want to be as accurate as possible.

Thank you in advance for any assistance folks can provide! :ugeek: Victor

Since they are not painted and dont rust my guess is cad plated flat steel was used. They are easy to reproduce from store bought flat stock. I can measure one in the morning.

Ok. Had a loose one on the shelf. Made from 3/4 wide flat stock. They are 6 3/4 from the inside to inside of the number plate. The down legs are 2 inches. The hump where it sits on the fender is not as exaggerated as the picture looks. If you weld the nuts on it will rust where the plating is burned off. I would use 6mm nylocks instead. I get the width and hump right and let the down legs run wild. trim them to 2 inches when done.

Opps. The shallow hump measures about 3 1/4 inches across right in the middle of the bracket.

3/4” flat stock? Really? Darn! I bought 1/2” flats stock today. Guess I’ll return it for 3/4”!

I have an extra Road Toad frame I’ll use as a guide for the rounding. Tell me, what’s the arc length of the curve? It will help me with the bending.

Thanks, Olddogs, for all you’ve provided so far! I was thinking about drilling and threading the holes for a 6mm threaded bolt. Thread first, screw in bolt, screw on nut and tack weld nut in place. Should be sturdy enough to hold a plastic number plate! Thanks again!!! :ugeek: Victor

If you are going for the full look of the original brackets the nuts were the flat square weld on type. They are unplated and weld on better. I bought a box of them years ago and they have come in handy to have around.
