71 Hodaka 92B+ recommended gearing

Hi all- I acquired a non running Ace 100 with 311 miles on the odometer this spring and got it up and running well, but it’s been sitting since because I’ve been dragging my feet on buying new cog, chain, and sprocket. The original owner put one of those overlaying sprockets over the original so the rear is in perfect shape, but the countershaft cog is excessively worn and the chain is rusty. I would like to put it back to factory gearing but don’t know what tooth count came standard. I know it’s a 420 chain and from this forum I’ve seen people use 13-15t cogs.

So my questions are: what is stock tooth count?
And
What hearing would you recommend for Colorado trail riding?

14 tooth front and 36 rear with a 50 tooth overlay. 420 chain is readily available. A lot of guys upgrade to 428 chain setups for durability. Your gearing choices are a personal preference to your areas terrain.

Did the overlay come stock?? I always thought they were added on for backcountry riding.

Also, how many links of chain would I need for that 50t overlay?

From the 92B+ owners manual 929510D it states # 423 chain, front sprocket 14 T, rear sprocket 56 T, not a overlay.
The 92B manual 929510C it states # 420 chain or #41, front sprocket 15 T, rear sprocket 36 T. with a 50 T trail sprocket.
The 92A manual 929510B it states # 420 chain or #41, front sprocket !5 T, rear sprocket 36 T. with a 50 T trail sprocket.
These are taken from my owners manuals. As I remember one tooth changed on front was about four on the rear.
Gearing varies by rider ability and terrain and conditions I like about a 13 or 14 front and 54 rear. 12 is too small.

The links needed for the overlay the manual does not say, but in the manual picture I count six. The overlay sprocket did come stock. The bolts that attached the sprockets together would shift some and ruin the smaller street sprocket. -----------Clarence
