Carb needle...

If the bike runs great at full throttle and idle, but at mid throttle it hesitates, does than mean lower the needle clip to raise the needle? Just looking for clarification. Thx. Victor

I'd say yes. If it stutters and four strokes then you've gone too rich.

The choice of the word "hesitates" does tend to suggest a lean condition. So yes raising the needle (or going to a richer slide) would seem to be in order.

NOTE: One good concept to keep in mind when you aren't sure whether you should go leaner or richer is: GO RICHER. That might be the wrong direction, but it is the safe direction. And if things got worse by going richer, then you KNOW you can go leaner.

And now (getting back to your current issue) - is the hesitation between 1/4 throttle and 1/2 throttle? (If so, slide adjustment is likely needed.) Is the hesitation between 1/2 throttle and 3/4 throttle? (if so, needle adjustment is likely needed.)

Thank you. Yes more between 1/2 & 3/4 throttle. So I’ll lower the clip one notch and that will raise the needle, making it richer. Making sure I get the terminology correct this time. I already changed from the 1.5 slide to the std 2.0 for this 26mm carb. Problem was opposite before. Great mid throttle and poor full throttle. But it was the incorrect needle for the stock needle jet. Everything is now configured as a stock Model 03 26mm carb. Just need to zero in 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. Victor

Sorry. That wasn't a particularly good choice of words when relating to tuning the slide. Yes, the normal way of slide tuning would be to install a one step richer or one step leaner slide.

I dropped the clip from the 3rd slot to the forth slot today. Reeves better now but didn’t ride it yet. Had to clean up for dinner. Was also working on a float issue with my CW. I’ll ride it tomorrow and give you the results. Victor
