What kind of hub is this?
What kind of hub is this?
Is this a modified Hodaka hub or is it after market? Alan has this on his Super Combat. Victor

It is how they should be. Clarence

Re: What kind of hub is this?
While I kind of agree with Clarence that double leading shoe is the way they should be, the answer to the question is - that isn't a stock Hodaka brake backing plate. I'd make wild guesstimate that it came from an outright street bike of some ilk.

Re: What kind of hub is this?
The forks don’t look Hodaka either. This was bought by Alan from Ben in Washington.
I’m greasing they used this hub because it’s double throw. But those forks with removable lower clamps aren’t Hodaka either. Bictor

Not sure what brand the brake is from, but isn't the photo showing the brake mounted on the wrong side of the bike?
Re: What kind of hub is this?
While the hub is obviously not Hodaka I am not so sure about the forks. They could very well be 34mm forks from an 03 Wombat or from a 175cc or 250cc Hodaka. They have removable lower clamps. The casting between the axle and the drain screw is slightly different than my 34mm forks but otherwise appear the same.

Re: What kind of hub is this?
I said the hub in question was a Honda, but my Honda (XL 175). It had a Yamaha YZ front end on it. I think that is what your friend has on his bike, Victor.
Re: What kind of hub is this?
I don't recall any year of YZs (or any other dirt bikes) with double leading shoe brakes, but I could be wrong. I do know that KXs went straight from single leading shoe to disk brakes. I think Ed is on the right track with his guesstimate that it is off a street bike.
What I'd really like to know is how well does it work?

Re: What kind of hub is this?
It was a 1982 or '83 YZ250 front end on my XL175 Honda. The front brakes as I recall (vaguely) were excellent for the build purpose of the bike (enduro/hare scrambles).
Re: What kind of hub is this?
The early 80's YZ's and IT's had double leading shoe front brakes like that, but they had leading axle forks with much more travel than the forks in the picture would provide. The picture might be a Yamaha wheel married to 34mm Hodaka forks (which were the same forks Yamaha used in the early 70's.)

Re: What kind of hub is this?
Thank you, Pop. That was driving me crazy. I forgot about the leading axle feature. Now I'm sure about the YZ front end on the XL. I put it on for more travel for the MX sections on the hare scrambles courses. The jumps were getting bigger. Had that bike for about six months, blew up the motor, had it rebuilt, and wrecked the bike on the second ride with the new motor. Poof.
Re: What kind of hub is this?
I sure did not know that the YZs and ITs had double leading shoes, that is cool, thanks for the info. I keep on learning things all the time here.
