Ace 90 wiring jumble

Post by JPark »

I'm refurbing an Ace 90 and I'm more familiar with the 100s. They have a box/cover - such as it is - which holds the wiring connections to the ignition switch and such to the side of the battery box; the 90 seems to have nothing particular for the purpose. The manual shows nothing; not even a picture of the left side. The parts diagram shows nothing and the wiring shown there is too short to ever meet. The PO just had everything taped together in a lump, which is what I had to do.

Is that just how it was, or am I missing something?

Yep, no cover on the Ace 90. Just a (tidy, secure, well-organized) lump of wires.

I don't like it, but I guess I can lump it. No plastic cover to crack, screws to fall out, parts to lose or have to buy; I guess there's a sort of beauty to it after all.

Snug the wires together with cable ties & then secure the bundled wires to the frame with another cable tie! :ugeek: Victor

I wasn't sure if they had cable ties back in '66. Didn't want any period incorrect parts on there. ;-)

Hodakas back then used aluminum straps to secure the wiring harness to the frame - part 909445. By the time the Wombat 94A came out in the '70s, both aluminum and plastic ties were used - the plastic ties to secure the turn signal wiring.

Similar aluminum ties are made today for the India-manufactured scooters:
