02 Toad Oil Pump Delete

Post by toadroad88 »

Hey guys,

I'm working on an 02 Toad and going through the 'easy' stuff right now but had a question on the oil pump delete. I bought the kit from Terry but realized I wasn't sure what to do with the holes where the rubber grommets are for the oil in and oil out lines. What's the consensus best way to fill that hole in?

Also my dad laid the bike down at one point and bent some stuff on the front fender. It points about 20 degrees the wrong direction. It looks like it's mostly the bracket that holds it on that is bent so I was planning to buy that from Terry. However, he also cut the front fender down by 4-5" (it's back to the Hodaka text on the fender) after the crash. I was debating whether or not it's just time for a new one or if I could just get a new flap for it and extend it back out artificially if it doesn't look too goofy. I can't find those anywhere on hodaka-parts, does someone have a lead on those? Maybe they weren't standard and that's why :).

Thanks!
Brandon

It’s Model 02? I used a rubber mud guard with my 99 and it looks fine! I think they use the same fender... :ugeek: Victor

Way back in the day, on various brands of bikes, we simply filled the holes through the grommets neatly with silicone sealer. I'm interested to see if that is still the method today.

That's what I'd do.

Thanks, Victor. Mine is a model 02.

Thanks guys! I'll do some look into the silicone sealer.

I used plastic plugs from the hardware store. Get them slightly large and then warm the ridges with a heat gun before inserting them. They work great and look good too.

Clever Dale. How about a short “Tech Tip” for the next Resonator Revisited?

I'm really liking the plastic plug idea as it seems easier to remove when / if i ever want to re-install the pump. Great idea. thanks!

Figured I'd post an update for you guys in case anyone else was interested. I found some rubber plugs on amazon for sheet metal and they ended up working fantastic for this. They don't look perfect but for what I was looking for they are great. The product description was: 5/8" 15 MM Black Rubber Plugs for Flush Mount Body and Sheet Metal Holes | Hole Size .571"-.631" | Metal Thickness .031"-.079" | Thermoplastic Rubber Button Plugs Made in USA and they can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JR ... UTF8&psc=1

Picture below for what it's worth. I'm planning to put a little liquid gasket around them to complete the seal. Ignore the dirt and grime and stripped out screws...it's a work in progress!
