Wombat internal fork tubes

Post by Dennis D »

Disassembled the fork tubes on the Wombat today and found both of what I call the dampning tubes broken. Is this a common problem with these forks, something I need to look for, or am I just lucky, again...... Thanks, D

It seems like you'd have to remove the damper rods, break 'em, then put 'em back in the forks.

What is broken on the damper rods? (and no, I don't remember ever seeing "broken" damper rods)

A picture is worth a thousand words. Lets see what you've got.

When you think you've seen most everything, something like this comes along. And not one rod but both, so it is not a freak manufacturing defect. I'm anxious for a picture so the detective work can start!

If I can figure out loading photo I will do so. This is the first set of Hodaka forks I have taken apart, but not the first set of forks I have done. I have never come across this before. They both broke at the point the roll pin goes through the tube. Hopefully the files attach. D
BTW, anyone got more of these laying around than they will ever use? :D

Dennis, were the damper rod springs still there? Back in the day I think there was a popular mod for a while to remove them for a bit more travel, never did it myself.

Yep, all the parts are there. One thing I did notice when I pulled them out of the trees is that the tube would drop about a half inch before it would contact the upper spacer. Like the spring was too short. I thought this might be because of the broken tube and was going to recheck when I put them back together. D
