I rescued another Super Rat 98..........

Post by hodakaguy »

I rescued another Super Rat 98..........from a pile of junk. Just finished it today. This makes 1 Wombat and 1 Super Rat 98 back from the dead totally restored as best as I can. . Next is a Super Rat 93A from a different pile of junk. I am liking piles of junk that can be re-constituted into Hodakas.

I will post pics sometime soon.

Not the best shots....but... Here they are. I can't move it because I am waiting for a chain breaker to arrive.

The bike looks great. How long did the restore take? I started in 08 on my Super Rat (98) and moved slowly for a few years, but now I am determined to finish it. I put it off WAY to long. Did you re-anodize your rear shocks? They look really good. I have not decided what to do with mine yet. The pics were great. Thanks, Linc

Nice looking scoot!

If you have a right-angle grinder you could use it to grind the ends of the appropriate chain rivets flush with the side plates. Then some judicious hammer and punch driving will remove the pins and the far side plate. This method is actually probably "friendlier" to the ID of the bushings in the chain, since it isn't quite so much a "brute force" operation like the chain breaker is.

Keep the rubber side down!

This resto took me about 1 year. I started with a parts bike and finished with eBay parts and Strictly Hodaka \ Hodaka-Parts stuff. The shocks were painted as the chrome was bad and I am doing all my restorations on -the-cheap shall we say. I am just having fun and doing this for a hobby. I don't care about "originality" so much.

Yeah. You have a good point. I really have forgotten everything I knew about dirt bikes as I have been out of them for over 30 years. It took me forever to lace the rim right and mount the tires! I DO have the engine rebuilding down however.
