Anyone know how to repair the brass petcock on a model 94? I've tried lapping compound on the valve, which helped, but they sill leak.

Lap things for a couple more hours, then there are two ways to proceed (not necessarily in this order). 1. Assemble and install fuel petcock. Tighten the "cone" nut until the petcock is non- operational. Petcock should not be leaking. I hope you picked the position you want. 2. Use the glimmering, highly polished cone as a necklace pendant for your wife's Mother's Day gift. I've heard the now shiny interior of the valve body can be used to make teensy kaleidoscope. Seriously, I've never succeeded in re-furbing the brass petcock. Your mileage may vary.

I've done it, but it's a real time killer.

I'd say this:

If they are the originals you might have success IF you have various FINE grades of lapping compounds on hand. I'd say 400 grit & 600 grit.

AND you drive the little cone thing at maybe 50 to 100 rpm with maybe a low power portable drill.

Hand lapping may take way too long. I know I gave up. Or my fingers did.

I see Hodaka parts dot com has these aftermarket for $40. I have one of these and it is okay.

Buy one, plug the other side of the tank's outlet.

The later Strictly Hodaka after market ones were re-fitted with little tiny O-Rings in those grooves.

I’ve gotten rubber grommets from Terry which replace the fiber ones that used to be used. My Road Toad always leaked even with the valve turned off.

When Terry sent me the rubber ones they stopped leaking immediately!!! I just put a fresh fiber one on the Wombat Combat tank. If it continues to leak, I’ll go to Ace Hardware and look for rubber grommets the same size and see if it stops! Victor

Not sure if you guys have them over there, but here in Australia I use a plastic tap from my local lawnmower repair shop, only a few dollars and work well, the downside is that they are plastic and you could break one off if you drop the bike.
I never have but carry a spare just in case.

The plastic tap you use, does it screw into the tank bung like the original? If so, do you have a picture or manufacture name and part number?
