VM20 needle jet options

Post by Tether »

I need a new needle jet and jet needle for my Ace 100 motor (VM20). Since the N-6 jet and the 4F6 needle seem to be unavailable is there a substitute that can be used and found?

Both these are listed on Hodaka Parts; have they run out? It's listed as a 129-N6 but the 4F6 is just 4F6. I need to replace a borrowed set some time so would also like to know.

JetsRus still lists the 4F6 needle but 129 series jets don't seem to be listed there and they would have them if they existed, you would think.

Thanks JPark.
I was confused because I don’t completely understand the numbering system. So the 129 series N6 is what I need?
HPI lists 6F4 is this the same needle as 4F6 ?

6F4 is different from 4F6. The jets are in series like 129 , 159 etc. The 129s seem to be obsolete. I hope Terry still has some.

At $15 for a needle and $20 for a jet it's not really expensive, considering the precision involved. Resizing old jets might be possible if you had a method of building the orifice up and a precision reamer. Making needles would be pretty fussy...

Adapting something from another series might be a better way to go if you could find something suitable.

I ended up on a Mikuni site which goes into the numbering and dimensions, tapers etc.

And, yes, it's 129 series N6 jet.

The series number will be stamped into the barrel of the jet, near the bottom.

Try jetsrus.com to see if they still have any 4F6 needles; let us know.

I looked on jetsrus.com and did not find 4F6 needles. I sent them an email asking if they had any or knows of something compatible . This was his response:

“I do not know of a source for it or a compatible sorry”

Look under needles, then Mikuni, and it's listed with dimensions and such under #4 series. There are three no longer availables on the list but 4F6 is still up. Maybe time to update the list.

They still list a VM 20 newer style in flange mount but I think the stud spacing is different and the air cleaner end will no doubt be a 'whole nuther'. Jetting would be a project but once determined we'd be away. Has anyone done this yet?

Tether, the 4F10 needle is still on the list at jetsrus and is very close in dimension. Could you ask them if it is still available?

Hodaka-Parts offers a VM20 rebuild kit. It appears to contain everything except a new nozzle. It does not state the specifics on the needle so a call to Terry would be needed to determine that.

Ha! I had forgotten that I bought one of those rebuild kits! I just checked and it is indeed a 4F6. That’s good news. With the jet that is on its way I should be good to go.

I will check to see if I have a 4F6 needle for you. I have 5 or 6 needles in my carb box. :ugeek: Victor
