Road Toad Petcock

Post by Dozerash »

I have a 1977 Hodaka Road Toad that could use a fuel petcock. I found a few that might fit (I need to get some measurements), anything out there that fits? Thanks

Can the original be taken apart? Mine turns really hard.

The Road Toad petcocks can be rebuilt. Remove the small screw on the body of the petcock. The handle can then be removed. There is a little nylon-looking cone that is the actual fuel valve that is often broken. It is replaceable. Hopefully all yours needs is a good cleaning but at least they can be rebuilt if the valve is broken.

Matt,
do you know of a place to get replacement nylon cones? I have a few petcocks that need some, both chrome and painted tank model petcocks.

I know Terry has a newer designed replacement available but I'd rather rebuild what I have if possible.

Thanks,
Beven

Bev, I got some from Paul Stannard a few years ago. I don't know if HPI has them now that Terry has acquired the SH inventory. I would contact him directly. He might have them but with the massive influx of inventory, they may be in an as yet unopened box.

Bev, if he doesn't have them, my guess is he knows the source. Man, I wish I scored about 50 of those. If you get jammed up, I can look at pulling a couple of the petcocks in my parts stash apart and cannibalize a couple for you. Good luck and let me know.

One thing I’ve found is the old style fiber petcock gaskets do not work nearly as well as the rubber ones Terry now offers! Twice I had petcocks which leaked. New rubber gaskets & no more leaking! :ugeek: Victor

Dozerash. Did you get a petcock? I found an extra in my tool box! If you still need one, post your address and I will send it to you for a $15 contribution to the Hodaka Club! :ugeek: Victor
