Condenser Question

I'm about to replace the points and condenser on my Ace 100. I want to remove the condenser from the magneto assembly and mount it remotely near the coil. What condenser do I want? Does it matter? Is a condenser a condenser?

Yes it does matter, but I cannot recommend the most appropriate one for you. -----------------Clarence

Echlin RR174 available at NAPA or Mallory 400 available at most auto parts stores.

I’ve been using the Kawasaki 250 condenser & it works fine for the 125’s.

Here’s the info Joe gave me.

Honda Part # ‪30250-001-013‬ and #30250-001-024 fit Hodaka 90 and 100 cc Engines. Forgot to add that! Joe.

Kawasaki F8 points & condensers fit the 125’s. KAWASAKI F11 F8 CONDENSER #21013-030

I too have used a condenser from an auto parts store & mounted it at the coil.

I've got the Ace.

Been running it like that for years.

Left the under the flywheel condenser where it was.

My guess, and that's all it is..., if the existing condenser isn't shorted or doesn't short at running temperature it can stay where it is.

I found it a pain to try to resolder the existing condenser. Thought I mighta overheated the new one I put in.

Maybe I'm no soldering pro, but that soldering job is a drag.

This seems like a simple and convenient preemptive strike against condenser failure. I'm currently - no pun intended - about to remount my magneto with its 60 year old condenser, and ditching it for this looks far better than hoping it doesn't pack in at random. I've had them fail and they just quit like a light bulb. Pfft, you're a pedestrian.

There must be a lot less heat and vibration up there than a half inch from the crankshaft. I think they mounted them next to the points because you were supposed to replace them as a pair, in theory.
