eBay Carb

Post by viclioce »

Got a carb on eBay. The pilot air screw was stuck TIGHT. Tried several removal tools & nothing. Not even my stripped screw bits or easy outs are working. Any other ideas to try? Don’t care if I ruin the air screw as long as I get it out without damaging the threads. Thanks in advance. :ugeek: Victor

Kroil, or gentle heat. Make sure the carb is empty first.

While I have never had to address a situation like this one. I know what I would try first.

Disassemble carb. Place carb body in a healthy sauce pan with water and Pinesol. Boil till tend . . . er, um, boil for a while. Low boil for a couple of hours (or more) if needed.

Hmmm, that should have been "healthy size".

Boiling, huh? That’s not something I would have thought of doing with a carb. Guess I better go buy a cheap pan at the Dollar Store, so as to not get my butt kicked for using the good pans! Victor

Part of the reason I like the boiling is that over-heating is pretty much automatically eliminated. PineSol has been mentioned elsewhere as a surfactant of choice in hydrosonic cleaners (and it actually smells a bit piney which is nice if you are doing this operation in the kitchen).

I'd also get some appropriate gloves so I could attempt the air screw loosening operation immediately out of the hot water. Good luck!

I have oven mitts I use for case heating for bearing changes. I bought pinesol but need to get a pot! I’ll actually be boiling 2 carbs! :ugeek: Victor
