Hello, I recently purchased a restored ED250 and would like to check the oil pump and cable adjustments. From what I gather the shifter assy has to be removed to get at the pump cover and then the pump. My question is about the removal of the shifter...is it held on by the 3 large Phillips screws, does it have to be in neutral and are there any tricks to bolting the shifter assy back on to the engine case?
Thanks for all the info here on the Forum!
Regards,

250ED Oil Pump adjustment
Re: 250ED Oil Pump adjustment
I believe that some folks will chime in eventually, but there are far fewer folks with experience with the 250's than with the smaller bikes. That includes me.
The 100's and 125's with oil pumps have them located on the right side with the clutch cover so are quite a bit different.
As for removing the shift cover, you can first remove the inspection cover and you will see the shifter arm with it's pin indexed into the round end of the control shaft. When you shift up or down, the shifter arm moves the control shaft in and out. If you are trying to shift it with the bike stationary, you need to use one hand to rock the rear wheel back and forth with the bike on a stand.
Yes, the 3 larger screws will allow you to remove the shift cover itself. Removing and installing the shift cover is usually easiest by starting out in neutral.

Thanks for the help ddvorak! There's no rush on this as the bike's inside for the season. Hopefully more advice is on the way.

bobv,
Your friendly, local Hodaka Service Department representative finally came up with the time to scan a couple of pages from the 250ED Owner's Manual (see photos). Dale has already guided you "in". You should be set now. Ed

Keep the rubber side down!
Re: 250ED Oil Pump adjustment
Thanks to all for the help getting my pump dialed in. It was off on the minimum position. A little cable adjustment and it's good to go.
Happy New Year to everyone.
